Linux on an HP dv8000

I just got done installing FC5 on a new HP dv8000...

What works: (required no special config or headaches, just worked like they should)
sound
ethernet (wired)
touchpad
nvidia 7400 (with nvidia drivers)

What does not work:
intel 3945ABG integrated wireless (works using ndiswrapper or native linux drivers but requires some pain)
tv tuner (not even recognized one bit but im not surprised)
integrated card reader (surprised this does not work usually usb storage is detected and works great)
softkeys (quicklaunch buttons for DVD/calculator/etc)

Not tested:
internal winmodem (might work with linuxant drivers but who cares?)
s-video out
bluetooth

NOTES: to get the wireless working using ndiswrapper you NEED to install a kernel with 16k stack instead of the default 4k stack with Fedora, you can get an rpm from the linuxant website of a modified Fedora kernel, at the time of this writing I am waiting for them to build an rpm for the latest updated kernel that came out lastnight via yum updates

I COULD downgrade to previous kernel and everything will work but I have decided to wait so I can use latest updated kernel.

Instead of using ndiswrapper you could use the native linux drivers for this chipset, however they look somewhat messy and require building some ieee3894 modules that complain about the already installed ieee3894 stuff in Fedora.

One thing I am not looking forward to is having to rebuild the wireless stuff each and every time a kernel update is released. Aside from that I am very happy with this machine, I dont really care much about the features that are not working since I would hardly if ever use them anyhow.

sleepless night, night two

its so dark my eyes are open and I can fool my brain into thinking they are closed. its cold, I can feel my joints, I am aware of how each bone connects to the other. I will end up sleeping eventually and when I awake to the alarm I will be more comfortable than I have been any other time previous.

Strange that I feel it necessary to zombie walk into this room and hurt my eyes looking at this box of brightness and type about how I cannot sleep.

But then again, what is strange anyhow..
